Lyrics: Endgame
borrowing the theme from the fifth movement of Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique
(c) Morgenblume aka Gill Whitehurst Dec 2006
There'll come a time when this brave heart at last runs out of beats
When the strength to walk another step is absent from these feet
The seconds left to me will be the only pennies left
of a badly squandered treasure chest, the ending of this quest
Looking down I see my wasting flesh, yes, that once was me
I hope that when I reach that time, I've been all I can be.
Nothing but the wormy Earth is destined for these bones,
Maybe brief remembered longings echo carved on the headstone?
"Beloved daughter", "sister", "friend", not much it seems was written
Under it, what was once Life's home, consumed, recycled, shriven.
From here it seems a distant scene, I had so much more to give
From here I hear a bitter voice cry "then maybe you could start to live!"
I saw the end, its coloured "bruised", and I cannot avoid it,
I see eternity in a second hand, I reach and, at last, embrace it.
Love, Light, Life...aahhh
